Environmental Education OpportunitiesArkansas Game & Fish Commission will present Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs a hands-on educator's workshop
Description: Hooked On Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) focuses on preventing drug use through sport fishing and aquatic resources education. This program begins with the premise that while most youth do not use drugs, alternatives such as fishing can keep children from drug use. Curriculum includes activities Science, Math, P.E, Language Arts, Fine Arts, Biology and Social Studies frameworks. A rich, fun curriculum that includes Fish anatomy, Fish Identification, Water Ecology, Habitat Types and Human Impact. The workshop is designed to train teachers how to start a fishing club, how to have a fishing derby, and how to teach angling skills. Resources will be provided to participants from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the National HOFNOD organization, including a curriculum guide in which the activities are correlated to the Arkansas Department of Education's frameworks, and other resources for teaching curriculum such as an aquarium for teaching water ecology and Rod and Reel lending program.
