Memo To: All Conservation District Employees From: Johnny G. Belew Subject: Congressional Contacts Needed Now! Date: August 18, 1999 During the rest of August, many members of the Arkansas Congressional Delegation will be in Arkansas visiting with constituents. It is critical that you urge your board members to make every effort to call or visit in person with their Congressman in support of the following two items: Ask their House Members to sign a "Dear Colleague" letter that Congressman Sherwood Boehlert (R-23rd/NY) has initiated to send to the chairmen and ranking members of the House Agriculture Committee, the full Appropriations Committee and the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. He is looking for his colleagues to support an additional $500 million for conservation funding in the emergency aid package. A copy of the letter is attached. Ask their Members in both the House and Senate to support an additional $500 million in conservation funding when both chambers meet to iron out the difference in the agriculture spending bill in conference. The conference will likely take place sometime in September. Thank you, and if you have any questions please give me a call.
