AG&FC Awards Grant for Butterfly Garden

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's Project WILD recently awarded a $5,000 grant to a consortium which included Crooked Creek Conservation District Arkansas State Parks and Marion County Master Gardeners for a butterfly garden to teach youth of all ages about wildlife, conservation and the environment at James A. Gaston Visitor Center at Bull Shoals-White River State Park.

Karla Axel with Crooked Creek Conservation District has directed Yellville-Summit students in the development and maintenance of a butterfly garden at the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Agency offices for six years. Through her contacts with the Southshore-Marion County Youth Group and Marion County 4-H Butterfly Group, she has a core group who will be actively involved in developing the project. Janice Denney, Bull Shoals State Park interpreter, will provide on-sight contact with the garden which will be in front of the James A. Gaston Visitor Center.
